5 steps to clean your bathroom to perfection

Bathroom Cleaning Tips

The bathroom is not among the cleanest places of your home. It is used on a daily basis by pretty much every single member of the household. As a result, it harbours a variety of germs and bacteria that you would not want to think about. Thankfully, you can remedy this. Whether you like cleaning in small, easily manageable sessions or like to get the job done in one single cleaning swoop.

You will find the following tips very handy:

  • Cleaning the shower – start from the top, or in this case: the showerhead. It is much likely that it has accumulated soap scum, in addition to hard water deposits. The way to clean it is simple: fill a plastic bag with one part water and one part white vinegar. Tie it around the showerhead and leave it there overnight. Remove it afterwards and give it a good rinse. It will be as good as new. Shower curtains are another item of the shower area you should clean. Toss them in the washing machine, along with a few old towels to act as scrubbers. If you have shower doors, clean with baking soda and vinegar paste. If you are a fan of bathtubs, you have it easy: give it a quick scrub every week.
  • Domestic Cleaning TipsCleaning grout – every bathroom has grout lines, which require special attention. Because of the porous nature of grout, you should know it is susceptible to mould and bacteria growth. If you have such a serious problem, you can use bleach. Otherwise, you can scrub with a baking soda and water paste, to whiten the area and sanitise it.
  • Cleaning tile – you may not be able to see it, but the tiled areas in the bathroom are covered in the microscopic film, made of skin cells, dirt and soaps. What you can use to help the situation is an all-purpose cleaner. Spray it on the surfaces around you and turn on the hot shower. The steam will mix up with the cleaner, making it very easy to wipe down the whole bathroom after 10 or so minutes.
  • Cleaning the sink – if the drain is clogged, pour down baking soda and vinegar and flush with hot water. You should learn to use disposable disinfecting wipes, as they combat bacteria quite nicely. For all the areas that are too hard to get around the faucet, you can use floss. It is perfect for the areas where the base of the faucet meets the sink.
  • Washing hand towels – if your washing machine has a sanitising setting, you can use it, or alternatively, bleach them. In any case, you want to replace towels every 3 to four days. Many people share towels, which means that the fabric gets in contact with moisture. This, coupled with the dark environment in your bathroom, means that towels can become a breeding ground for bacteria.

By taking your time to go through these steps, you can easily make your bathroom perfectly clean.
