A guide to dusting everything

Dusting likely makes for a considerable portion of your home cleaning time. That is because no matter what you do, you cannot stop dust from accumulating on top of everything – appliances, countertops, furniture items, etc.

In that regard, it pays to know how to dust various items in your home efficiently. The first step is understanding what tools you should use and what tools don’t do much to help you. Then, you will have to learn the proper technique, because that will speed things up and make it easy for you.

Here’s a guide on how to dust areas and items at home:

• Walls – believe it or not, you don’t need to dust ceiling and walls by hand. Your vacuum cleaner, armed with the right attachment, is your best friend in that regard. It is by far the most efficient way of dusting you can do. You just need to remember to work from top to bottom to capture as much dust as possible. Conclude the task with a vacuum cleaner of the floor, and you are set.

• Curio cabinets – the main thing about dusting cabinets is getting to the dust in small nooks and the various intricate carvings these cabinets possess. To do that, you need nothing more than a little makeup brush and a microfibre cloth.

• Baseboards – sometimes you will notice dingy spots on baseboards. These can be a bother to look at. To get rid of them, lightly spray a wet cloth with water or an all-purpose cleaner and run it over the area.

• Electronics – the TV, desktop computer and its peripheral devices will accumulate dust like magnets. Before you initiate your cleaning service, unplug the device. A quick swipe with a microfibre cloth usually does the trick nicely. As for the dust around the cords and vents of these devices, you can use your vacuum cleaner. Don’t ignore this duty, as the dust can clog outlets and machines when left for too long.

• Behind appliances/furniture – just because you cannot see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Crumbs, grease, dust and other debris will accumulate over time behind your fridge and stove. For this reason, it is a good idea to consider moving said appliances and furniture items now and then so that you tackle the dust behind them.

• Soft toys – beanbag toys, fabric dolls and plush toys can all be cleaned with the help of baking soda. Put said items in a bag, along with a cup of baking soda and shake well. The dust and soil will be drawn out by the static and the soda. Remove a single item at a time and shake off the clumps of baking soda.

These are all fantastic ways to tackle dust without too much stress at home. Implement them in your cleaning routine, and you will find that dealing with dust is not in trouble as your previously thought.
